Rant afresh
Alrighty, let's get cracking. Too much YouTube coupled with too much sitting around turns Jack, Mac, Joe and the rest of the lot into fat pigs. So, what better excuse to generate material than to jot down all that you've learned from your self-help playlist!
Today's mini-rant is on a topic called human nature; the idea for it came from THIS video which has a rather insightful take on the subject. It starts with the fable of the Frog and the Scorpion. Both are standing on the same bank of a river, wanting to cross over to the other side. The scorpion, of course, doesn't know how to swim, and requests the frog to carry him to the other side. Poor frog.
The discerning frog knows the scorpion's nature. The scorpion stings. And stings aren't pleasant, let alone that stings are mostly lethal for measly creatures such as our little frog. So, no surprises that the frog has his reservations about letting the scorpion anywhere close to himself. However, the scorpion sweet-talks our little frog into giving him a lift. Hopefully. they both crossed the river safely.
Except that they didn't. The scorpion's tail raised its ugly head, pricked the frog mid-stream, and both drowned and died. *fin* Now, for the takeaway..... Like the scorpion's, our natures don't change. Whether you are a dog, a bird, a man, a woman, or a child, the way we fundamentally behave doesn't change. No wonder we're (especially us men) are reprimanded time and again with the words "Stop behaving like a child!"
It is precisely because we don't change that history books and biographies are so important in imparting life-lessons. And thanks to the many lessons that we've been passed down over the millennia, we can be the discerning frog and choose not to give the scorpion a lift. *Rrrrribit! Rrrrribit! Rrrrribit! Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrribit!*
Actually, don't be the frog, even if you like making croaking sounds. Simply watch how people behave, and steer clear of anyone who can potentially sting you in the buttocks (How the hell did I know that the scorpion stung the frog in the buttocks? Moving on...). Now, that's easier said than done because our brain is superb at clouding our judgement with feelings and emotional hogwash. Don't fight the mind, nah, that's counter-productive. Just grow the smarts to dodge the scorpion. However, you'll have to figure that part out by yourself, buddy. Man, hope this sticks.
